Gods in Color
The festival known as "Lal Kach" (Red Glass) in Bangladesh is steeped in tradition and spirituality, tracing its roots back hundreds of years. Central to this vibrant celebration is the belief that a group of soldiers, led by Lord Shiva, descends to Earth with a sacred mission to ward off the forces of evil. As the festival draws near, excitement fills the air, with young men preparing to embody these divine warriors by painting themselves in vibrant red—a color that symbolizes courage and resilience. Armed with swords, they practice their dances, their rhythmic movements echoing the legacy of generations past. The procession begins as the sun climbs higher, with participants chanting and celebrating their faith. Families line the streets, their faces glowing with pride as the dancers leap and twirl, forging a deep connection with their ancestors and honoring their struggles. As evening falls, the red glow of the festival illuminates the horizon while lanterns light up the temples, where rituals and prayers await. Lal Kach transforms into a powerful reminder of community, faith, and the belief that they can overcome any darkness that threatens their peace together.
